Blooket: An online gamified learning tool

The Blooket logo featuring different characters players can choose.
The tool I decided to research and experiment with is called Blooket. Blooket is an online gamified learning tool where teachers can host games while students answer different types of questions. Students can answer them on their own devices by joining with a game code. There are multiple games that teachers can choose for their students to play, such as Crypto Hack, Café, Fishing Frenzy, and more. The game players (students) answer the questions to help them win, playing the chosen game as they answer the questions. The game is online, as previously mentioned, and accessed through the site: play.blooket.com. There are three different pricing options for Blooket: starter, plus, and plus flex. The starter option is the free one and includes unlimited sets and edits, unique game modes, question set match, and each game can have up to 60 players. The plus option is $2.99/month ($35.88 charged yearly) and includes all the starter features, enhanced game reports, early event access, question set folders, student bonus tokens, copy and duplicate feature for game sets, and each game can have up to 300 players. The plus flex option is $4.99/month (does not charge yearly) and includes all the plus features and you can cancel whenever you’d like. There are also options for group pricing which offer a discounted price than the regular 3 options.

I chose to create a Blooket because I see teachers at my school use this in their classrooms all the time, and the students absolutely love it. I have never played around with it, so I figured this would be the perfect time to do that. I created a Blooket for 6th grade math involving equations and inequalities. I chose to include three different types of questions: multiple choice, true/false, and write-in. There is a math feature you can select and it has all kinds of mathematical symbols you can use to create equations, formulas, etc. for students to solve. These are not editable when the students are playing the game because they show up like a picture on the question, so you have to type the question next to it in the question box provided. Creating this Blooket, I learned that gamified teaching strategies can be an amazing way to help with student engagement and willingness to learn for any subject area. Click here to see the Blooket I created. I believe you have to log in to view or you can search Equations and Inequalities in the "discover" section, although a game has to have a minimum of 10 plays for it to show up by search. My username is mslil.

Based on my experience with this tool, I will definitely use Blooket in my future classrooms. I already see on a daily basis how much students love it and the positive impact it has on their engagement within the classroom. It was very easy to use as well. I liked how it included the math feature, too. That was very helpful and easy to use. I would encourage teachers to use gamified learning tools in their classrooms, even if they aren’t familiar with them. They can be great tools to get your students excited about learning and have a positive impact on their behavior in the classroom.
